The Sardinian club wanted €25m to €30m to sell the striker but did not want to wait until the end of the transfer window to offload him.
Some developments have now emerged which could prompt the Hammers to move for the Italian.
Il Mattino report Napoli are interested in West Ham’s Niclas Fullkrug, who has struggled since his arrival at the London club.
They claim, as relayed by AreaNapoli, that Graham Potter’s side could be open to loaning out the German, as the Italian champions look to sign a striker after Romelu Lukaku picked up a long-term injury some days ago.
At the same time, the Partenopei could compete with West Ham for Piccoli.
La Nuova Sardegna report, as relayed by TuttoCagliari, that Napoli are considering signing the Italian in an attempt to pair him up with Lorenzo Lucca in the absence of Lukaku.
Cagliari want €25m to sell the player and the Sardinian outlet believe that West Ham could make a formal approach soon.
It is fair to say that any move for the 24-year-old may depend on Fullkrug’s potential exit. If the veteran stays, a move for Piccoli would make little sense.
