The recent comments from Julen Lopetegui on Guillem Balague’s podcast about the summer at Wolverhampton Wanderers so far have gone down rather well in Italy.
That’s because Napoli are trying to sign Max Kilman from Molineux, and the fact the manager fears more sales are on the way at Wolves is great news for the Serie A side.
This is what Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport are reporting, as the former states the quotes from the Spaniard are a ‘glimmer of hope’ for the league champions.
Wolves’ need to still sell despite the likes of Ruben Neves and Nathan Collins already departing for rather hefty fees means there is an opening for Napoli, even if the €40m asking price has ‘held back’ Aurelio De Laurentiis so far.
Over at Corriere, they are a bit more optimistic, outright claiming in their headline that Kilman is ‘ever closer’ to a move to Naples.
The text is a bit more subdued, but they do believe that the comments from Lopetegui ‘fuel Napoli’s hope of being able to reach an agreement soon’.
The Italians remain firm on staying at €35m, which was initially rejected by the Premier League side, but they are ‘convinced’ that Wolves will eventually agree to ‘take it into consideration due to financial problems’.
On top of that, Kilman himself ‘would be happy to play’ in the Champions League with the Serie A club, something he would not be able to do if he were to stay at Molineux.
