When Newcastle United were bought by Saudi Arabia’s PIF, few expected them to appoint Eddie Howe as their manager.

Bigger names, with all due respect to the former Bournemouth man, were linked with the role, but it appears the Magpies were charmed by their current manager, and appointing him has been one of their best decision to date.

Howe has taken Newcastle from fighting against relegation to being in the European spots of the Premier League in about a year, in part thanks to some good investment on the transfer market.

The likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Sven Botman have certainly helped solidify the squad, but one of the best performers this season has undoubtedly been Miguel Almirón.

The 28-year-old has been at Newcastle since 2019, when they spent £21.6m on him from Atlanta in the MLS, and while he has performed, this campaign has seen him take his performances to another level.

He has six goals in 12 Premier League games to date, with some of those strikes being absolute stunners, which has earned him praise around the globe, including in Belgium.

Previewing this weekend’s games for Voo Sport World, and relayed by Sud Info, Serge Radermacher said: “Will Newcastle be the sensation of the season? The club of Saudi billionaires has been progressing serenely for a year and the victory at Tottenham last Sunday was the first big blow achieved by Eddie Howe against a representative of the Big 6 this season.

“With the best defence, effective signings and a sensational Miguel Almirón, who has already scored some of the best goals of the season, the Magpies are becoming strong candidates for European qualification. Will we soon have to talk about the Big 7?”
