Newcastle United have been in touch with Barcelona over Ferran Torres and shown an interest in Raphinha to boot.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say Newcastle have ‘called for’ the former Manchester City man as he’s very much on the list of ‘transferable players’ at Barcelona.
The newspaper explains that the Catalan giants are about to close this month without securing several of the big exits they had been hoping for, a problem given the state of their finances and a need to get in line with La Liga’s salary caps.
While there is a list of players who definitely have to leave there is also those who can be considered ‘transferable players’ if the right offer arrives and Torres is one of them alongside Ansu Fati.
There have been ‘no concrete moves yet’ for either player, presumably because all of Newcastle’s focus is on getting the deal for Sandro Tonali over the line.
The interest is there, though, and this report of a potential phone call follows another earlier this week that stated Newcastle were expected to bid around €40m for Torres sooner rather than later.
That or anything concrete hasn’t happened yet but there is a firm belief, at least in Barcelona, that they are keen and there is a deal there to be done if they want it.
