As Manchester United prepare to move onto other targets following the soon-to-be-announced acquisition of André Onana, the midfield area could be next.
One of the targets being looked at by Erik ten Hag is a player he knows well, in Sofyan Amrabat, currently contracted to Fiorentina in Italy.
The two worked together at FC Utrecht in the past, and that’s why the Dutch manager wouldn’t mind him in his Manchester United squad, as recalled by Corriere dello Sport on Monday.
They state the interest from Old Trafford is ‘now known’, but the €30m requested by the Serie A side remain ‘far from the offer’ of the Red Devils.
This, therefore, suggests that Manchester United have already made a first bid for the player, only for it to be deemed insufficient by the Italians.
Elsewhere, Liverpool are also said to be keen, but their advances have been far more ‘superficial’, likely because they have already signed two midfielders in Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister.
Amrabat remains a different profile to those two, and his future remains a mystery, although we all know how quickly that can change if Ten Hag starts putting pressure on Manchester United to get him if other targets slip through his fingers.
