Real Betis would find it hard to ignore Liverpool this summer if they are interested in a move for midfielder Guido Rodriguez
Reports in England recently named Liverpool as suitors for the Argentine, who impressed last season and at the Copa America with his country.
He’s been linked with a move to the Premier League over the last few months, with Arsenal regularly named as suitors but yet to make their move.
Liverpool were added to the list recently via the newspapers in England, who stated they were eyeing Rodriguez as a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum after his move to PSG.
Estadio Deportivo cover that today and state that while Rodriguez has an €80m release clause in his contract, they would not stick to that religiously. Instead, they will consider proposals that are ‘close to half that amount’.
They want to keep the midfielder, but there is a need to balance the books and any significant offer, between €30m-40m, would make them ‘uncomfortable’ in that regard as it would help their finances and allow them to rebuild the team.
Ideally, they would prefer to sell next summer as it would mean Betis taking more of a slice of the transfer than currently, as his rights are split with his former club.
The ‘temptations’ are there for everybody, though, and if Liverpool were to offer a ‘significant sum’, then Betis would be forced into making a decision.
It would also be difficult for Rodriguez to ‘ignore’ a club of that level, despite his dream being to play for either Real Madrid or Barcelona.
Thus it appears the deal is there to be done for Liverpool if they have the cash, although it is quite literally a case of ‘wait and see’ on that front.
