Chelsea have ‘found a soft spot’ for the Red Bull model, which could lead Christopher Vivell to join the Blues.
That’s according to Kicker, who look at the situation around the technical director today and whether he will end up at Stamford Bridge as expected.
Vivell was sacked from his position as RB Leipzig technical director earlier this week, with the German club citing a difference of opinions as the cause.
His sacking came just a week after he had been linked with a move to Chelsea, who had apparently become interested in him via an intermediate after chasing RB Salzburg’s Christopher Freund.
Reports have quickly emerged stating that Vivell will be on his way to London and talks have been going on for weeks, but that is yet to be backed up by the German media.
Kicker cover the situation today say that Vivell’s sacking ‘apparently has to do’ with the interest from Chelsea, with the fact Todd Boehly and co have ‘found a soft spot’ for the RB model something that ‘cannot be overlooked’.
They do cite reports from England and elsewhere stating that Vivell is set to sign with Chelsea and how the 35-year-old ‘reportedly held talks’ on Tuesday.
That is not something they confirm or deny but do say that ‘apparently Leipzig were not very keen’ on Vivell’s idea of leaving and that resulted in his abrupt sacking.
Either way, they believe that something is in the offing and it all stems from Boehly’s discovered love of the RB model.
Interestingly they do also add that Chelsea are looking for a sporting director independently of Vivell, suggesting he’s set for a different role at the club even if he does sign as expected.
