Leeds United took Brenden Aaronson from Red Bull Salzburg last summer and he had a good start to his Elland Road career, managing a goal and an assist from first five league games.
However, the attacking midfielder finished the previous season with two goals and three assists from 41 games.
Berliner Zeitung had a detailed chat with the Leeds player after his move to Union Berlin on loan, where he revealed to have enjoyed the first few months in England.
“In the first six months I probably played the best football of my career, I was self-confident and felt good,” he said.
The 22-year-old has admitted his situation at Leeds changed after the World Cup and the club’s poor run in this calendar year didn’t help him. He was restricted to a substitute’s role towards the end of last season.
Leeds managed three wins in their last 15 league games. They went through three managers in the second half of last season but that didn’t help them avoid getting relegated from the Premier League.
“It got difficult after the World Cup. We were less and less successful as a team and then it became more difficult for me personally,” Aaronson explained.
Earlier this month, the Championship side allowed the American to join Union Berlin on a loan deal.
