Bayern Munich director of sport Max Eberl has confirmed they are working on a deal with Tottenham for Mathys Tel.
Journalist Florian Plettenberg covers comments from Eberl today after reports yesterday that Tottenham had struck an agreement on a €60m deal for the French youngster.
Tel has told Bayern he would like to leave before the window closes, sparking a race for his signature, with several Premier league sides currently involved.
Tottenham raced to the front of the queue yesterday as they reached a verbal agreement with Bayern over a €60m deal. It was, however, unclear how that would be structured and several reports followed making it clear that Tel was yet to decide his future.
The forward appeared to be waiting for other offers to arrive, with Chelsea, Aston Villa and potentially even Manchester United all ready to make bids as well.
That would seemingly be welcomed by Eberl, who has confirmed the talks with Tottenham and Bayern’s desire to make money on their young forward.
“It’s also about generating transfer revenue,” he is quoted as saying.
“Mathys is an incredibly sought-after player. Whether it will be a loan or a sale, we will discuss it in the coming days and hours.
“Will we make any more moves? Regardless of the money, our squad is very well set up.”
It seems Tottenham have work to do before they get this move over the line then, and a loan has not been ruled out either.
That tallies with reports from yesterday which stated Tel was yet to decide whether to leave Bayern permanently or temporarily as he’d regularly stated in the past that he wants to be a Bayern Munich legend.
That would suggest he’d prefer a loan deal, although Eberl clearly has his eye on a transfer profit at this stage.
