Vincent Kompany has been warned it will take more than smart tactics for him to last at Bayern Munich, as “Bavaria is not Burnley”.
That’s the insight from Didi Hamann today, who has warned the former Burnley boss about the potential politics he might not have had to deal with at Burnley in a conversation with BILD.
The Belgian boss made the surprise move to the Allianz Arena this summer as Bayern looked for their new manager.
The German giants had gone through an exhausting list of options for the position, wit numerous managers either turning them down or proving to be unobtainable.
They eventually settled on Kompany, a surprise so far given his time in management so far has seen him in charge of Anderlecht and Burnley.
He impressed at the latter as they dominated the Championship but struggled in the Premier League, suffering relegation after a year back in the top flight.
His move to a giant club like Bayern therefore raised eyebrows and Hamann isn’t done warning him of the dangers yet, despite a positive start to life in charge of the German club.
“Yes, I trust him. But: After all the coaches who cancelled, there is simply unrest in the club,” he said.
“For Kompany it’s about keeping the collection of top stars from different nations happy. There’s more to it than just understanding the game.
“And Bayern is not Burnley. Even as only the seventh coaching candidate and Bundesliga novice, the expectations of him are the same as everyone else. By the way, that also applies to Nuri Sahin in Dortmund.”
