We always find it interesting how quickly things can change in the transfer market.
For a couple of weeks, Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko was top of Napoli’s list to replace a hopefully departing Emmanuele Giaccherini, with the Serie A side waiting to be qualified for the Champions League before making a move, yet that has now changed, according to Il Mattino.
According to the local newspaper, Barcelona’s Denis Suarez is said to have jumped ahead of the Ukrainian, if the possibility to sign to sign the Spaniard presents itself.
What appears to have happened here is the arrival of Paulinho at Nou Camp, brought back to Europe from China for around €40m, leaving the 23-year-old even less likely to get minutes under Ernesto Valverde.
The former Spurs man’s transfer means a few more options have become slightly more available on the target, pushing Zinchenko down the pecking order, now relegated to being their ‘plan B’.
However, there’s good news for Manchester City in all of this as Il Mattino don’t appear convinced Suarez would want to leave Barcelona just yet, especially with a reported interest from Tottenham.
We thought we’d give you the bad news first, only to lift your spirits towards the end with a glimmer of hope.
We’re nice like that.
