The outbreak of optimism around Barcelona since the presidential elections is still continuing in some quarters. With Joan Laporta now in place and some of the crisis situation calmed, there’s been big talk of potentially huge summer signings.

One of the men concerned is Erling Haaland, who has been impressing again for Borussia Dortmund this season and who is thought to be wanted by many of the top clubs in Europe.

There’s been disagreement in the Catalan media over whether Barcelona will be able to afford the Norwegian, with some sources insisting it’s possible, whilst others talk down the chances.

Saturday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo has a bright slant for Barcelona supporters. The newspapers takes quotes from Carles Tusquets, who was the key man at Barca whilst the presidential process was ongoing.

He believes Haaland or another big signing would be possible, based on conditions. Tusquets is quoted as saying: “If the salary bill is reduced, the team is rejuvenated, there are transfers and the Barca Corporate agreement is signed, the signing can be raised.”

Therefore, players need to leave to make the move possible, and there’s a chance it could also be dependant on a certain Lionel Messi going and taking his huge salary with him.

A renewal for Messi plus a move for Haaland sounds very difficult indeed.
