Barcelona will face competition from Manchester City and Real Madrid for Erling Haaland, according to Sport

It’s explained new president Joan Laporta will do everything he can to sign a ‘top-level star’ in the next market.

Many names have been discussed and the main target is the Borussia Dortmund striker, ‘who is astonishing the world’ with his goalscoring record. He has 31 goals and eight assists to his name this season.

The operation to sign the 20-year-old is ‘complicated’ for several reasons and Laporta, who is aware of this, is not going to give up easily.

Laporta has already made contact with the Norway international’s advisor, Mino Raiola, to ask about the striker’s situation. The Barca boss shares a good relationship with the super-agent and this factor could favour the Catalan club.

The final decision, however, will be made by the player himself, and the report adds the possibility of him staying at BVB next season is not ruled out.

Haaland’s €75m release clause will come into effect in 2022, which is why the summer will be ‘ideal’ time for Dortmund to earn in excess of €100m from his sale.

Apart from the hefty transfer fee, Barca will also have to take into account of the agent’s commission and the frontman’s salary. The wages could be taken care of if the Camp Nou side are successful in lowering their current salary budget.

Laporta wanted to block Haaland’s signing, but that seems ‘impossible’, especially when he arouses interest of other clubs, like Manchester City and Real Madrid.

It’s claimed Pep Guardiola’s side and Los Blancos have ‘positioned themselves’ to acquire the Dortmund star’s services and they also ‘have the money ready’ to formalise the transfer.
