West Ham United now show up as a potential destination for Marseille midfielder Gerson.
That’s something today reported by Goal Brasil, but before we start talking about the Hammers’ interest, we need to explain what’s going on with the player.
There had been negotiations between Marseille and Flamengo for the midfielder to return to the Rio de Janeiro club, however, with his staff ‘forcing’ the move, that made the French club irritated and disrupted the talks.
According to Goal Brasil, it was the attitude from Gerson’s father that harmed the negotiations, as he’d been saying behind the scenes that the move was done. With the Ligue 1 side not liking that, the transfer is ‘ruled out’ for now.
It’s said there are intermediaries now looking for new clubs in Europe. That’s where West Ham come in, with the Hammers said to be ‘an option’, along with a club from Spain.
It turns out that the talks with the Hammers were also harmed because of Gerson’s father. Goal Brasil says that while West Ham spoke to intermediaries, his dad was ‘spreading’ information about the agreement with Flamengo, and that ‘irritated’ the Premier League side’s board.
Despite that setback, the story still considers West Ham as an alternative for the midfielder, with the intermediaries working on a January move. With England and Spain being considered his favourite places to move to, that’s another factor which could help the London side.
