It’s been a bit of a bad morning for Aston Villa fans waiting for their club to sign Morgan Sanson, as the club’s first offer for the player was rejected by Marseille.

Deemed somewhat pathetic by the Ligue 1 side, the bid sent by Dean Smith’s side was swiftly returned, as it was below what had previously been discussed.

Marseille, who spent €9m + €3m on the player four years ago, want a bit more than the €13m + €3m the Villans allegedly put forward, but that doesn’t mean it’s all over.

According to TF1 journalist Julien Maynard, ‘the talks between the two clubs aren’t broken’, suggesting negotiations are still underway to get a transfer sorted.

That corroborates what La Provence were saying earlier on Thursday, as they believed Sanson’s dream of playing in the Premier League was still alive despite the latest developments.

More to come in this one down the line.
