Aston Villa still in race to sign 16-goal free agent – Emery can offer him ‘leading role’ he is looking for

As Aston Villa continue their impressive run of games under Unai Emery, the transfer stories for next season continue to grow.

After all, everyone wants to join an in-form team, and that’s exactly what the Villans are, with their Spanish manager taking them to almost forgotten heights in the Premier League since his arrival.

Emery will want to bolster his Aston Villa squad further to continue this momentum into next season, and one of the players he seems to want is Marcus Thuram, as recalled by Calciomercato.it.

The Borussia Mönchengladbach star will be a free agent this summer, and is currently injured, with fears he would be out until the end of the campaign, but the Italian outlet state he’s hoping to be back before then to play a few last times for his current club.

What happens beyond that is still a mystery, but it’s pointed out that Aston Villa are one of the clubs waiting for him to decide his future.

This comes amid interest from other teams, such as AC Milan, Inter Milan, Newcastle and Atletico Madrid, and it’s made clear he wants a club in which he can ‘play a leading role’.

That’s certainly something Emery should be able to offer him at Aston Villa, where he would try and improve on his current 16 goals and six assists in 30 appearances.
