Aston Villa ‘seem to have resigned themselves’ to losing Douglas Luiz in the summer, with Roma one of the club’s eyeing him up.
That’s according to AS Roma Live, who say the Brazilian is one of several options that Roma are looking at for the summer transfer window.
They’re keen to add a new midfielder to their squad if they can, with Jose Mourinho desperate to do so last summer and in January but unable to as the club could not get rid of Amadou Diawara.
That saw them miss out on a deal for Marseille’s Boubacar Kamara, who is now likely to end up in the Premier League. Thus Roma are looking at other players in their ‘orbit’, and Aston Villa’s Luiz is one of them.
He was one of the options being looked at over the last year and is considered a candidate who ‘could return in the coming months’.
That’s despite it being felt that there will be ‘difficulties’ in carrying out negotiations that will be ‘anything but easy’.
In other words, Aston Villa are unlikely to make getting Luiz a simple process, although it is stated that they ‘seem to have resigned themselves’ to losing the midfielder.
That is being inferred from the reports in England, which have seen Villa linked with several midfielders throughout the January transfer window.
Those moves are seen as Aston Villa looking for a replacement for Luiz and ‘the feeling is’ that next summer will be the ‘right time to sell him’. Whether Roma will be watching remains to be seen.
