While the striker role at Aston Villa might not seem as pressing following Ollie Watkins’ performance against Chelsea at the weekend, it would be surprising to not see it addressed in some shape or form in the summer.
One of the main names to be linked with a move (back) to Villa Park in recent weeks has been that of Tammy Abraham, currently struggling for form at AS Roma.
This was apparent at the weekend once more, with Il Messaggero looking at the player’s performance in the 3-0 win against Sampdoria, making it clear the ‘crisis is open’ regarding the Englishman.
The forward ‘struggled for the entire 58 minutes he was on the pitch’, and it’s becoming clear that he is more of a problem for José Mourinho these days than a solution.
That, however, could be beneficial for Aston Villa, as they are still interested in moving for him this summer, with it made clear they are one of two teams in England ‘ready to sign’ him.
Having already had him for two years after a €40m or so transfer, Abraham is worth around €24m on Roma’s balance sheet, meaning that ‘reselling him for €40m’ would allow them to make a ‘capital gain’ of €16m.
As things stand, however, Tiago Pinto has ‘set the price at €50-55m’ in hope that someone from the Premier League, perhaps Aston Villa, would be ready to match that amount, but that seems to be more in hope than anything else these days.
