Earlier today, Calciomercato reported AC Milan will make an attempt to sign Aston Villa’s Clément Lenglet, who is on loan from Barcelona. It was also stated the Serie A side’s ties with his agent could help them agree a deal for his transfer in the winter market.
The centre-back has been restricted to five appearances in the UEFA Conference League this season and is now close to leaving Aston Villa, according to Sport.
It’s claimed his situation at Villa Park is now ‘unsustainable’ and this has not pleased the La Liga side, who don’t want to devalue their player. Therefore, Barca and the 28-year-old are both looking for a solution in January.
This has seen the Aston Villa defender focus on Milan and would have already given his approval to join them on loan with a mandatory purchase option if certain conditions are met.
Lenglet’s deal at the Camp Nou lasts until 2026 and Sport say it’s an ‘absolute priority’ for the Spanish giants to sort out his future.
In short, the former Sevilla man’s time at Aston Villa could come to an end in January, even if the Villans are happy with him despite playing him only in the Conference League.
It will all come down to what Emery and Monchi have to say, and perhaps it could be the player who convinces them of letting him go.
