Aston Villa’s Nicolò Zaniolo has been left out of the Italy squad for the Euros following his injury setback earlier this month.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the winger will go under the knife even though the injury isn’t a serious one.
The Aston Villa player will have ‘metatarsal surgery’ at Italy’s Humanitas hospital later today, and is expected to be discharged on Thursday.
The 24-year-old’s current situation shouldn’t be a concern for the summer window. Di Marzio says he should recover and regain full fitness by the time pre-season starts, and it’s unlikely to be with the Villans.
Unai Emery’s side signed the Italy international from Galatasaray on loan with a conditional purchase obligation. This hasn’t been fulfilled and he’s expected to return to the Turkish club.
Zaniolo is unlikely to stay there and is not short of options, despite the poor season at Aston Villa.
The journalist says the Villans attacker is ‘wanted by several Italian clubs’, but only names Fiorentina. They have a ‘strong’ interest in the player and seem to be ahead of other clubs in the transfer race.
The former AS Roma man will have to make a decision as his future is clearly away from Aston Villa.
