For the past week or so, various claims from the Italian media have stated AC Milan are interested in signing Aston Villa’s Clément Lenglet in the winter market.
The defender joined the Villans on loan from Barcelona. Two days ago, Sport reported the La Liga side are in favour of letting him join the Rossoneri. It was also said Aston Villa are blocking his exit as Unai Emery wants to retain him until the end of this season.
Gazzetta dello Sport now provide the latest on Milan pursuit to sign the Aston Villa man
The Serie A side have an urgent need to bolster their defence and Fikayo Tomori joining the injury list has forced them to bring in two centre-backs next month.
The Frenchman’s name is in the ‘highest position in the Rossoneri’s notebook’, meaning he’s on top of their list.
Lenglet has featured seven times this season and it includes two league appearances, which came in the last two matches. Aston Villa want to retain the 28-year-old until the end of the season and are ‘resisting’ to let go of him in January.
Gazzetta state this would seem like an obstacle that ‘can be overcome’ by Milan in the upcoming window.
If Lenglet were to continue to feature for Emery’s side in the upcoming matches, it could make it difficult for Milan to secure his services.
