Four days ago, we relayed news from Italy that AC Milan have their eyes set on Aston Villa’s Clément Lenglet.

On Monday, Il Mattino stated Napoli have joined the race to sign the defender, who is on loan at Aston Villa from Barcelona. This is relayed by Calciomercato, who then explain Milan’s plans to sign the 28-year-old.

Stefano Pioli’s side have been keen on Jakub Kiwior but the latest claims from the Italian media have stated there’s ‘no possibility’ for the Pole to leave Arsenal.

Taking this situation into account, the report says the Rossoneri have shifted their focus to the Frenchman. Unai Emery has only used him in the UEFA Europe Conference League this season and the player ‘wants to leave’ Aston Villa in the winter market.

Calciomercato add that the centre-back will ‘almost certainly’ return to Barca and is expected to leave again in January. Milan want to ‘make an attempt’ to sign him on a loan deal with an option to buy. He earns €6m per year and that’s an ‘obstacle’ for the San Siro club.

The Aston Villa player is managed by Wasserman and the agency has a good relationship with the Italian club. The outlet claims this ‘can favour the success of the operation’ to bring Lenglet to the San Siro.

Milan seem to have contacted his representatives, to find a new agreement and convince Barca to pay part of his salary.

Lenglet ‘wants to leave’ the Villans and it needs to seen what Unai Emery and Aston Villa director Monchi have to say on his potential exit next month.
