It seems Clement Lenglet did have a real opportunity to leave Aston Villa on a move to Italy during the transfer window.

That’s revealed by journalist Gianluca Di Marzio on Sky Sport 24. Outlet All Milan brings some quotes from him on the Rossoneri’s market moves.

The pundit claimed that the Serie A side had big interest in signing Lenglet from Aston Villa, but got blocked by the Premier League side.

“AC Milan, having found Torino unwilling to open negotiations for Buongiorno, are back to looking at the Premier League. Lenglet has always been one of the first choices. He had also spoken to Pioli and Moncada and had even given his opening to land at the Rossoneri. However, once there was a real chance to get him, he started playing. Thus, Aston Villa never gave him away again,” said Di Marzio.

Lenglet indeed struggled to start playing for Aston Villa since his arrival from Barcelona. He’d been only involved in cup games until the 22th of December, when he finally played his first Premier League match for the club.

Since then, he became a regular starter in Unai Emery’s side, and now has 12 appearances under the coach.

With him starting in their last five league matches, it would have indeed been hard to imagine the club letting him go so late in the transfer window.

His loan from Barcelona shall continue until the end of the season, and then we’ll see where he lands.
