Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos’s entourage have opened the door for him to return to Sevilla this summer, according to El Chiringuito journalist Gonzalo Tortosa.
The centre-back spent three years at the La Liga before leaving them for Aston Villa in 2022.
A serious injury forced him to miss most of his debut season at Villa Park, while he made 38 appearances last season. Towards the end of last season, we covered claims suggesting that the 31-year-old may not be happy under Unai Emery.
There hasn’t been any concrete reports all summer about the possibility of him leaving Aston Villa. Earlier this week, a fake story emerged on social media and it garnered a lot of attention.
It was said Carlos had reached an agreement with Sevilla to return on a loan deal. These rumours were further fuelled by the Brazilian himself, when he responded to the Spanish club’s fans on Instagram.
When one user said it’s practically impossible for him to return, the Brazilian responded: “Impossible?”
This has seen Gonzalo Tortosa provide an update, where he claims the Aston Villa player would like to return to the Andalusian club.
There’s been no contact between the two parties, and it isn’t financially feasible for Sevilla to sign him right now.
Tortosa adds their position may change if there’s an effort from Aston Villa and Carlos. At this moment in time, there isn’t anything concrete on the possibility of him returning to the Spanish club.
Should Aston Villa present Sevilla with a subsidised deal then they’d obviously consider it, but that was always going to be the case and aside from Carlos himself getting involved in the rumour there doesn’t appear to be anything new.
