Portuguese newspaper has today broke some interesting news about the Benfica boss Bruno Lage.

The 42-year-old took charge of the club as an caretaker manager in January, following the sacking of Rui Vitória. And although there was no expiry date at first, he ended up getting the job until the end of the season.

That’s why Record brings an article saying the manager is being better advised than expected, because according to their sources, Lage has been using Jorge Mendes as his agent since last year.

They also say that in 2018, there had been invitations from clubs such as Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest trying to bring him back to the United Kingdom, where he worked as Carlos Carvalhal’s assistant at Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea.

Record refers to these Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa invitations as ‘negotiations’, but doesn’t say the reason why both opportunities didn’t go through. That’s strange, because he was working at Benfica B at the time.

Interestingly, this afternoon, Bruno Lage ended up signing a new deal with Benfica, which runs until 2023. So now it’s safe to say Villa and Forest don’t stand a chance of getting him in the near future.
