Philippe Coutinho won’t be an Aston Villa player for much longer, the Brazilian media says.

UOL claims that the player has agreed his contract rescission with the Premier League club, and will become a free agent.

The end of his ties with Aston Villa is a step for him to join his old club Vasco da Gama, with whom he already has an agreement.

The midfielder wasn’t part of the Villans’ plans, and even though he had a contract running until 2026, the fact that they owed him some money made it easier for him to leave.

According to UOL, Coutinho is set to sign a two or three year deal with Vasco.

Coutinho joined Aston Villa from Barcelona in January 2022. He first joined them on a loan deal, and the transfer was made permanent in that summer for €20m.

Playing for the English club, he had six goals and three assists in 43 appearances. At the start of the current season, he moved to Qatari side Al-Duhail on a loan deal. A permanent stay there was never considered by the player.
