With claims that Aston Villa are working towards signing Lucas Digne from Everton, it’s been made clear that Steven Gerrard wants a new left-back at Villa Park.
The arrival of the Frenchman would provide long-term competition to Matt Targett, with Ashley Young’s contract expiring at the end of the season.
Digne would be expensive, though, and so it isn’t surprising to see other, likely much cheaper, names being approached around Europe, with Layvin Kurzawa one of them.
The defender is hugely out of favour at Paris Saint-Germain despite him signing a new four year contract in June 2020, and Aston Villa made a timid approach to see what a transfer would entail.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who, when looking at Lyon’s attempts to sign the player, reveal that other clubs have also come knocking.
They state things ‘aren’t really moving’ for the player, ‘despite a few contacts in England from Aston Villa and West Ham’, with other clubs in Italy also keen.
It seems unlikely that Villa will sign Kurzawa, especially if they are chasing Digne, but it’s an option Steven Gerrard may be keeping up his sleeve for the time being should anything happen in the negotiations with Everton.
