Aston Villa’s interest in Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie is now being backed up in the Italian media.
It all started on Tuesday, when Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Carlo Laudisa told Numero Diez the Premier League side are one of the candidates to sign the player.
It was said ‘there are contacts’ for McKennie’s transfer to Aston Villa, with the possibility of a loan move in the January window.
It turns out it’s now journalist Gianluca Di Marzio who, on his website, writes that Unai Emery’s side are keen on the American player.
The report claims McKennie could indeed leave Juventus ‘for a suitable offer’, especially because they wouldn’t need to find a replacement. That’s due to the rise of young midfielders such as Fabio Miretti and Nicolo Fagioli.
Something interesting is that none of the reports say how much Aston Villa would need to spend to take McKennie away from the Old Lady, despite both stories making it clear the player is up for sale. Still, recent articles in the Italian media had claimed that Juventus would let him go for between €35m and €40m.
