Earlier today we covered claims from Marca, and media close to Villarreal, that Aston Villa are accelerating to sign Pau Torres.
The defender is about to enter the final year of his contract and therefore a transfer is on the agenda.
He has a €60m release clause but it’s clear that Villarreal can’t cling to this amount right now, given the lack of a long term contract.
Therefore, a transfer at around €30-35m is thought to be available and Aston Villa are considered to be the most interested club.
That’s all great news for the Premier League side, but now Cadena Ser throw a little cold water on the situation.
Firstly, they say Aston Villa ‘insist’ on the signing, and their information has come from sources close to the footballer.
Then it’s stated Torres wants time to think about his future and assess the options and offers. Cadena Ser state he ‘will not make a decision for a few weeks’.
That’s obviously a little frustrating to say the least. The defender knew about his contract situation and has known about interest from elsewhere for a while. This potentially dragging on until late July, and perhaps even into August, isn’t ideal for Aston Villa.
