Last week, El Periódico Mediterráneo reported Unai Emery is trying to convince Villlarreal star Pau Torres to join his ambitious project at Aston Villa.
The defender’s clash against Atlético Madrid on Sunday could be his last appearance for the La Liga side. Villarreal manager Quique Setién has also admitted he could leave the club in the summer.
Monday’s El Periódico Mediterráneo states Aston Villa and Juventus are the 26-year-old’s main suitors.
It’s claimed the Villans and the Serie A side are the two best placed clubs to sign the Spain international. Initially, his desire was to join a top club and the Old Lady would fit his requirements.
Juventus have failed to qualify for the Champions League next season and that could see them miss out on the centre-back.
This is where Aston Villa would come in. Although they aren’t a top club, Emery’s side can offer Torres a deal that’s ‘unattainable for almost any of La Liga’s sides’ and also play in the Premier League.
His deal expires in 2024 and has a €60m release clause. In order to not risk losing the player for free a year later, Villarreal could be forced to consider any offers they have on the table for him.
With Aston Villa and Juve in the mix, it’s said the La Liga side would have to sell Torres for a ‘somewhat lower figure’.
El Periódico Mediterráneo indicate Aston Villa have the edge to sign Emery’s target for less than €60m in the summer.
Over at AS, they state the Spaniard can say goodbye to Villarreal in the summer. He’s facing a decisive summer after receiving interest from Aston Villa and Juventus.
