Aston Villa have made advances to secure Amadou Onana’s long-term future.
Foot Mercato journalist Sébastien Denis took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to cover the latest about this case.
Injury not impacting Aston Villa contract situation

The midfielder suffered a serious injury while with Belgium at the World Cup in July.
Amadou Onana collided with Christian Pulisic during De Rode Duivels’ 4-1 win over USA and had to leave the field in the 18th minute. The test results have shown he suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
Last month, Aston Villa sporting director Damian Vidagany confirmed the former Everton will miss the entire season. This has forced the Villans to look for a new midfielder in the summer window.
The English club finished the window by adding João Gomes and Leon Goretzka to Unai Emery’s squad. Onana’s serious injury isn’t impacting his future at Villa Park.
Aston Villa want to reward midfielder
Sébastien Denis now reports the Europa League winners are to extend the 25-year-old’s contract.
His current deal lasts until 2029, and Transfermarkt value him at €45m. The new contract will run until 2031. If the former Lille man were to fulfil that contract, he will be at Villa Park until 30 years of age.
Denis has also posted an hourglass emoji after saying ‘official’, indicating Aston Villa will soon announce the Belgium international’s renewal.
The extension at the early stage of his long-recovery process is certainly surprising. It also shows that both Unai Emery and the Premier League side have total faith in Amadou Onana. As of now, the Belgian media haven’t backed up or dismissed Denis’ report.
Onana joined the English club from Everton in July 2024 for a reported fee of £50m [€58.2m]. He played 72 matches, managing seven goals and won the Europa League last season.
