Earlier this week, Sport said both Liverpool and Darwin Núñez are thinking about parting ways at the end of this season. It was also stated his agent Jorge Mendes has offered him to Barcelona.
This report surfaced after the striker deleted all Liverpool related photos from his official Instagram page and also made a trip to Barcelona, to meet his compatriot Ronald Araújo.
Núñez has been doing reasonably well for Liverpool since he arrived at Anfield from Benfica in 2022, but his time with the Reds could come to an end in the summer window.
That’s according to Radio Fénix journalist Nicolás Saavedra, and he mentioned this during Más que Pelotas podcast, relayed by Sport.
The Uruguay international’s current deal lasts until 2028, but Saavedra claims his agent is keen on taking him away from Liverpool.
“Mendes wants him to leave Liverpool. He’s a footballer whom he holds in very high regard and he has other aspirations for him,” he said.
Sport are of the belief the La Liga side could be an option for the 24-year-old in the next window. A potential deal, however, would be complicated by Liverpool’s demands for the player.
“Darwin Núñez’s value has risen in recent years and Liverpool will not sell him for less than €85m,” Saavedra explained.
The journalist further adds the South American’s focus is on the Copa América with the national team in the summer.
“[Núñez] is not urgently thinking about an exit. His priority at the moment is the Copa América,” he added.
