Aston Villa loaned out Enzo Barrenechea to Valencia in the summer transfer window, given they didn’t think he’d get enough minutes under Unai Emery.
This happened weeks after they had initially signed the Argentine from Juventus as part of a deal that had taken Douglas Luiz to Turin.
It now seems as if Barrenechea is attracting attention from major clubs and there could be a risk of him leaving Aston Villa.
Italian newspaper Leggo, as relayed by ASRomaLive, have reported today that AS Roma have ‘set their sights’ on signing the midfielder from the Birmingham club in the summer.
The Giallorossi’s interest can be traced back to last summer, when they wanted to sign the 23-year-old from Juventus.
The report doesn’t mention Aston Villa’s price tag but the feeling is that Roma’s Matias Soule and Barrenechea share a very good relationship and this can potentially help a summer move. The duo shared the dressing room during their time at Juventus.
So far this season, the midfielder has become a regular at Valencia. He’s played 21 La Liga games, scoring once and assisting twice.
This is a good reflection of the fact that Aston Villa’s decision to loan him out was a sensible one.
