Cruzeiro are working on a deal to sign Marquinhos from Arsenal, despite reports that a deal between the two sides had collapsed.

That’s according to GE Globo, who report that the Brazilian side are working on their loanee into a permanent signing this summer.

Marquinhos has been on loan at Cruzeiro since the beginning of the year and that deal included a clause for it to become mandatory if he played a certain number of games. Cruzeiro have been dodging that, hoping to re-negotiate with Arsenal.

The Gunners refused and so, it appeared the winger would be spending the rest of the year sitting out of action and then returning to the Emirates.

Instead, it now appears Cruzeiro have decided to buy him permanently and they are ‘working out the final details’ of that with Arsenal.

Their board are ‘cautious’ about the negotiation, but the two clubs have an agreement in place and the contract is likely to be signed in the coming days.

Certain bureaucratic procedures need to be finalised, but the forward will sign until the end of 2028. Indeed, he could be back in the squad for the clash against Palmeiras on Sunday. That is how quickly the deal is now progressing.

Initial talks with Arsenal had been about increasing the number of games required to make the loan move permanent. But the situation has changed in the last few days, and a permanent transfer is now on the cards.
