Arsenal Women star Leonie Maier has revealed she is loving life at the club, insisting she does not regret making the move last summer.

Maier joined the Gunners from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window after a frustrating campaign with the German giants in which she made just 12 starts all year.

It brought about an end to a six-year association with the club, where she won two league titles and earned herself international recognition, being capped by Germany and winning the 2013 UEFA Women’s Championship as well as Olympic Gold in 2016.

She’s been a regular for Arsenal, making 15 appearances in all competitions for the club so far this season.

And she insists she has not regretted her decision to move at any point, despite the Gunners underperforming in her eyes.

“I have never regretted taking the step to go to England,” she told dfb.de.

“I feel absolutely comfortable here. We have a great team together. It’s fun to train and play with the girls.

“In addition to the sporting aspect, I also get to know a new culture and can further develop myself personally.

“It has always been my wish to take a step abroad during my career. I am glad that I got this opportunity last summer. Recently I had the feeling that I needed a change.

“We are currently third with Arsenal London. That is not what we imagine. Shortly before the break, we lost an important game against Manchester City. That was a bitter setback.

“I don’t think we have enough to finish top. But we would like to finish second in the end to qualify for the Champions League again – if it really should go on.”

Like the men’s game, women’s football currently finds itself suspended until further notice as the UK battles against Coronavirus.

So far there has been no estimation of when the game may return, with the hope at the moment for a summer of football so season’s can be concluded.

There is a determination from most to get the season finished in any way possible, but the Arsenal defender believes it’s hard to asses the feasibility of that at present.

“Of course we all ask ourselves the questions,” she added.

“There is hope that we may be able to continue the season in June. But all of that is still very uncertain.

“Those responsible want to end the season. At present, I cannot really assess whether this is really feasible. It can also happen that the game time is cancelled.

“As far as I know, the consequences of this are still completely unclear.

“I personally prepare myself so that it will continue at some point. Let’s see what really happens.”
