Francis Cagigao loves Arsenal. A lot.
He came through the Gunners youth ranks and then went on to play for clubs including Barcelona B, Southend and Racing Santander.
He’s been speaking to La Voz de Galicia, and the Spanish newspaper describes him as Arsenal’s ‘technical secretary’. The 49 year old was born in London and has a Spanish background, and since retiring from the game he’s held several roles at the club, helping to identify transfers.
In 2017, Sky Sports reported interest from clubs in Spain, wanting to make Cagigao their director of football, and said: ‘Arsene Wenger’s close aide, who first brought Cesc Fabregas to the club and recommended the signings of Santi Cazorla, Hector Bellerin and Alexis Sanchez, has a contract until the summer of 2020.’
Born in Pimlico, he’d originally been a Chelsea fan as a child but changed allegiances when an Arsenal scout got him in their system.
The technical secretary says: “Arsenal is a team of values, a history of a humble neighbourhood, workers.”
He ‘fell in love with the club’ immediately, says La Voz.
