The German media today covers Arsenal’s interest in RB Leipzig fullback Benjamin Henrichs.

It’s Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg who, on Twitter, says there’s been talks between the Gunners and the player’s entourage.

The report claims Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has a ‘very good opinion’ about the 26-year-old, who’s currently valued by Transfermarkt at just €15m.

However, it’s pointed out that RB Leipzig may have good reasons to hold Henrichs, because besides having the player under contract until 2025, he’s ‘very important’ for manager Marco Rose.

Plettenberg refers to the right-back as a ‘backup target’, but doesn’t make it clear what that means.

Henrichs joined RB Leipzig in 2020. He first moved on a loan from Monaco, and completed the transfer in the following summer in a €15m deal.

The Germany international has played in several positions in his career, and even though he’s mainly a right-back, he was used in midfield and as a left-back for the Bundesliga side last season. That may be one of the reasons why Arteta is said to be keen on bringing him to the squad.
