Following the many stories regarding Arsenal’s interest in Palmeiras midfielder Danilo, we now see some positive news for the Gunners in this chase.
As Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola features a story about the players who may leave the Verdão in the next couple of months, the 21-year-old is one of the main candidates.
The reporter recalls that Arsenal offered €25m for the signing on the final day of the summer transfer window. That was turned down by Palmeiras at the time, but things could be different now.
“If this proposal is repeated, Palmeiras should end up negotiating the athlete,” says Jorge Nicola.
Arsenal fans may not understand why the same amount could be enough to sign Danilo now, but that could be explained by two facts.
The first is that the European summer window takes place in the middle of the Brazilian season.
By the time of the Gunners’ offer this year, Palmeiras were still fighting for the Copa Libertadores and Brazilian League titles, so they wouldn’t want to lose a player along the way.
Another issue which must be highlighted is that Danilo didn’t show some great form in the past few months, so knowing that his price may not go up, the Verdão could consider this is the best time for his departure.
