Arsenal have made concrete progress in their pursuit of Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino.

The midfielder is waiting for the two clubs to agree a deal, after reaching an agreement with the Gunners.

Radio Marca Donostia, relayed by Estadio Deportivo, say Arsenal have been negotiating with the La Liga side since last Wednesday.

The Spain international has been clear that he will either continue at the club without a renewal or join the Gunners. This has made it difficult for Real Sociedad since his deal expires in 2025. They are negotiating his exit but have been firm with their request of €35m.

Radio Marca Donostia say the operation has entered the decisive phase as Arsenal have reached an ‘agreement in principle’ with the Spanish club for €35m. There’s expectation for this deal to be closed this weekend.

Estadio Deportivo have also relayed a claim from El Diario Vasco, and they report that the €35m fee is including bonuses.

The Euro 2024 winner has been training under Imanol Alguacil’s orders, while waiting for the two clubs to resolve everything related to the transfer.

Arsenal, Real Sociedad and Merino all have a desire to conclude this operation as soon as possible.
