Earlier today, Bruno Andrade reported for Mais Futebol and CNN Portugal that Arsenal have made their first offer for Viktor Gyökeres.

That offer was put at less than €60m fixed fee plus a further €10m in potential bonus payments.

Portuguese newspaper Record then provided more detail, reporting the fee was actually €55m plus the potential €10m.

In addition to that, Record stated: ‘The offer was presented yesterday, at a meeting that took place in Menorca, Spain, and which brought together the Gunners’ sporting director, Andrea Berta, a lawyer for the London club and Sporting’s general director of football, Bernardo Palmeiro, representing the green and white SAD (the term for an incorporated football club in Portugal).’

That was never going to be enough for Sporting.

On Wednesday, the club’s president Frederico Varandas spoke to the media to rubbish claims from the player’s camp that an agreement had been made last year which would allow Gyökeres to leave for €60m plus €10m.

Sporting were thought to be wanting €80m.

Bruno Andrade now comes with a fresh Mais Futebol report saying Arsenal are expected to raise their offer. The Gunners are said to be preparing an offer which would have a higher guaranteed amount than that original €55m, and reach over €70m when bonuses are taken into account.

Sporting are said to have a good relationship with Arsenal, and are ready for a new round of negotiations.

Manchester United remain interested but only want to pay the €60m plus €10m that the player’s camp feel was the level agreed. However, the Mais Futebol report adds: ‘To make matters worse, the Red Devils have encountered obstacles in negotiating with the Swedish international himself.’
