Lucas Torreira spent last season on loan at Fiorentina, following a previous loan period with Atletico Madrid.
It doesn’t appear that there’s much of a future for him at Arsenal, and it had been expected he’d continue with the Serie A club. La Viola had a buying option of around €15m, and given how important Torreira was for them last season, the slant in Italy was that they’d ask for a discount and if that wasn’t available they’d end up paying the full fee.
That isn’t how things developed, with Fiorentina offering Arsenal less than half of the €15m previously agreed. Clearly, that wasn’t acceptable for the Gunners, and with the Italian side failing to improve their offer, Torreira needs to find another option.
The midfielder has been in South America before travelling to join Arsenal’s preseason. During his trip he’s been to multiple football matches, including a weekend Nacional fixture.
Torreira spoke to the media after that match, covered by Ovacion, and one of the topics was his love for Boca Juniors. Whilst he’s had contact with some people at the Argentine club, he feels a move there is “difficult” this summer because Arsenal are asking for a transfer fee.
He also revealed he’s had contact about a move to AS Roma: “I spoke with Mourinho some time ago. He is a coach that I admire. It is a chance that seduces me, but it is not easy.”
