On Monday, Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard suffered an ankle injury in Norway’s 2-1 win over Austria in the UEFA Nations League.

After the tie, Norway manager Stale Solbakken told TV2 that the midfielder’s injury “looks bad”.

Ola Sand, the national team doctor, also told TV2 that the Arsenal player will undergo tests today to find out the extent of the damage.

The 25-year-old is returning to north London, where he will undergo an MRI scan.

VG have posted a picture of Odegaard on crutches, boarding a plane to London. They say the player will undergo an MRI scan in to find out the extent of the damage. This has also been confirmed by the national team doctor.

“He is on his way to London and will have an MRI there later today,” he told VG.

When asked about the preliminary assessment, Sand explained: “Nothing but a strong overstepping and that we await what Arsenal find.”

Odegaard, who at the beginning of the international break was across the Norwegian media having just announced he’s set to become a father for the first time, is understandably glum.

Last week he spoke of the great moment he was living and that Arsenal was the perfect club for him, with the only thing missing stated as recent silverware and qualifying for a major tournament with Norway.

Days after that, he’s now struggling on to a private jet, with his partner walking behind carrying the couple’s dog. Arsenal fans will hope their captain can be cheerier soon, and that the MRI is clear.
