Palmeiras’ interest in signing Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal is a story which has been gaining some strength in the Brazilian rumour mill, despite how unlikely the move sounds.
On Wednesday evening, journalist Benjamin Back showed up on Twitter revealing that the Verdão have a little plan to get the striker.
It’s said that while Arsenal want to sell Jesus, Palmeiras will try to sign him on a loan deal. The club are looking to reinforce their squad for the 2025 Club World Cup.
Covering the claims, journalist Jorge Nicola talks a little about it on his Youtube channel.
The reporter first points out that Palmeiras president Leila Pereira wants to be reelected at the end of the year, and wants to build the strongest squad possible, so that would include bringing Jesus back to the club.
Nicola also claims to have heard from people close to the striker that its true Arsenal are considering his exit, so Gabriel Jesus is aware of the situation.
The big problem is how Palmeiras could make the transfer possible. Firstly, because his current salary at the Gunners is worth 1/3 of the Brazilian side’s salary sheet. Then there’s the fact he should get many offers from Europe, and there’s also his market value, with Transfermarkt having it at €70m.
Since Jesus is still 27, a loan sounds unlikely, and it pretty much sounds like the Verdão are only dreaming of his comeback for now.
