Arsenal have been following the Porto striker André Silva for over an year, according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.

The Gunners reportedly watched the player during the U20 World Cup last year, and kept him on a list of targets.

CapturarNow, O Jogo says that club scouts were sent to watch Porto’s Champions League away tie against Leicester City last week, which the Foxes won 1-0.

The newspaper describes this as a perfect opportunity for Arsenal to see André playing against a typical high pressure 4-4-2 English system.

The article admits the player didn’t have a good game in Leicester, but his season stats are still good. He has five goals and two assists in ten matches so far.

Things would’ve been easier if Arsenal wanted to buy the striker before August, as he only had a €25m release clause then. Now, with a new contract, this amount has been raised to, the now typical for Portugal, €60m.

Porto have no intention of selling the player next summer, and a January move is considered to be ‘impossible’.
