Arsenal forward Willian will decide his future on Sunday, with a return to Corinthians the ‘main possibility’ at this moment in time.
That’s according to EPSN Brazil, who say the Brazilian side are ‘ahead’ of the competition for the 33-year-old’s signature.
According to their information, Willian does not want to stay at Arsenal, and Corinthians are keen to take him back to his homeland.
They’re at the front of the queue, but Willian wants to assess other options first as he would like to stay in Europe if possible. However, he is yet to receive such an offer.
The forward reportedly told Arsenal he wanted out during pre-season, and Corinthians are now the only team to ‘make enquiries’ about him.
For that move to go through, he would have to terminate his deal at Arsenal and then reduce his wages, which are currently around £100k a week at the Emirates.
He will decide his future this weekend but does not have much time to make a decision as the deadline for new registrations in Brazil is August 30th, one day before Europe’s deadline.
This is all backed up by Globo, who say Corinthians are ‘optimistic’ that they will be getting their man.
Willian is the ‘target of the moment’ for them, and a move that was once seen as a ‘difficult dream’ has now come to be seen with ‘optimism’ by the club’s board.
Globo say the case ‘should be resolved soon’ and confirm that if Willian is to leave, he will have to terminate his contract with Arsenal first.
They also say that he has told the Gunners he wants to leave, so it seems it’s now up to the two parties to work out a severance package to make it happen and open the door for Corinthians.
