Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka is pressing for his move to Roma to be completed after weeks of negotiations between the two clubs.

That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say the Switzerland star has accepted ‘financial cuts’ in order to convince Arsenal to sell him.

As you’ll be aware, Xhaka has been heavily linked with a move to Roma for weeks, with numerous reports making it clear that he’s one of the preferred signings for Jose Mourinho this summer.

Arsenal are happy to sell but only for the right price and, despite Xhaka having had an agreement in place with Roma for a while, they are yet to reach an agreement on the transfer.

Reports in Italy have indicated that it could collapse, but according to Gazzetta, Xhaka is doing everything he can to stop that from happening.

They report that he is ‘doing everything to complete’ the move, despite Arsenal having put up a ‘wall of €20m’ around their man.

That’s a price Roma don’t want to reach at this moment in time, and so there is something of a stalemate between the two clubs.

However, the newspaper say it’s clear that the matter is ‘unlocking’ because Xhaka is working hard to make sure it does.

Once he reached an agreement with Roma on a four-year deal worth €2.5m per year plus bonuses, he told Arsenal he wanted to leave for the Giallorossi.

That wasn’t enough to make it happen, though, so Xhaka has offered to ‘renounce’ some bonuses that he is still owed by Arsenal and even reduce his terms with Roma to help them out as well.

He is ‘really getting into the game’ to make the move happen, but at the minute, Roma are yet to match Arsenal’s valuation and have offered €15m plus bonuses.

They don’t really have the money for the operation but could be aided by several pending exits, with Justin Kluivert, Cengiz Under and Robin Olsen among those close to sealing moves elsewhere.

That could free up funds to complete the move for Xhaka, who, for his part, is clearly doing everything in his power to get out of the Emirates this summer.
