Lyon star Alexandre Lacazette has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League in the last couple of years. Earlier this summer, it was reported Lacazette rejected an approach from West Ham United, but it now appears Arsenal are knocking on his door.
Yesterday, Lyon released a statement claiming Arsenal made a bid of €35m for Lacazette on Monday night, but it was immediately rejected.
On Wednesday, French newspaper L’Equipe say according to their English sources Arsenal should return with a bid of over €40m for Lacazette in the coming days.
Lyon play in the Champions League this season, and have maintained throughout they want to keep the 25-year-old at the club. L’Equipe believe that after the departure of Samuel Umtiti and the possible exit of Corentin Tolisso, the exit door will be ‘double locked’ for Lacazette.
An offer of €40m probably won’t be enough to convince Jean-Michel Aulas to sell Lacazette, so it depends how far ‘over’ €40m Arsenal are prepared to go.
