Former Chelsea defender Jeffrey Bruma has revealed he had the opportunity to return to the club this summer. Bruma was sold to PSV in 2013 in a €3.5m deal, after he failed to make an impact at Stamford Bridge.
The 24-year-old managed to turn things around in the Netherlands, and earned a €11.5m transfer to Wolfsburg this summer.
The Dutch international has been speaking to German magazine SportBild about interest from other clubs, and why he went to Wolfsburg. He said: “I had other options such as Inter Milan. I could have re-signed for Chelsea, who wanted me.
“There was a way to stay at PSV, who play in the Champions League regularly. But, in the end, I was attracted by Wolfsburg’s project.”
Bruma pointed out that he wasn’t sure if he’d have played regularly at Chelsea, and it’d be easier for him to continue his development at Wolfsburg.
He added: “Wolfsburg is a club where I can play. This is very important for my further development.
“At Chelsea or Inter, it would have been difficult for me to make the next step.”
