Brazilian outlet UOL today shares a very positive update regarding Arsenal’s chase for Lyon star Lucas Paquetá.
The website writes that now that the player, his staff and Lyon have set the ‘basis of a potential negotiation’, the Gunners show up as the ‘main candidates’ to sign him this summer.
It’s claimed Paquetá’s name was already approved by manager Mikel Arteta, and pointed out the player is ‘close’ to Edu Gaspar, who worked at the national team when the midfielder made his first games for Brazil.
UOL writes the clubs have been talking about the ‘monetary aspects of the operations’, as Lyon are said to be demanding €60m for the sale, and Arsenal considered it to be too high.
The Gunners are reportedly working on convincing Lyon to reduce those requests, or at least make part of that amount as performance bonuses in London.
Since Lucas Paquetá accepted a pay cut to join the Ligue 1 side when moving from Milan, it’s said this is one of the arguments his staff has been using to convince his club of making a more friendly sale.
Last week, we’ve seen the French media claiming Arsenal ‘seem determined’ to sign the midfielder and have been ‘pressing hard behind the scenes to try and push forward’ a deal.
Now with the Brazilian press backing it up, the Gunners’ pursuit starts looking even stronger.
