Atletico Madrid midfielder Lucas Torreira has tested positive for Covid-19, the La Liga club has revealed.

The Colchoneros released an official statement saying the loanee was tested in the Spanish capital after his international duty with Uruguay, and following the diagnosis, he’s now isolated at his home.

The Arsenal loanee featured in two games for the national team, and is their 12th person, among players and staff, to receive a positive result.

When the Uruguay FA reported seven new positive tests this morning, Torreira hadn’t been included, so there’s now a chance that other players could have contracted the virus in the past few days, including Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguayan media had also reported that all players were isolated in individual rooms in a hotel in Montevideo, but since Torreira is already in Madrid, it’s possible that other internationals have landed in Europe as well.

Loaned by Arsenal until the end of the season, Lucas Torreira has made seven appearances for Atletico Madrid so far, still fighting for a place in Diego Simeone’s starting line-up.
